Smiley

hi ivan, pasensya na po, nasa malayong lugar ang mga masters of the MDPC.

since birthday mo, i will try to answer your question kahit hindi ako master.

white image means you are totally over expose. black means you are totally under exposed.

there are 3 elements in an exposure actually, 5 kasama yun ambient/natural light and the artificial/flash/strobe light.di ko na sinama yun dalawa kasi nasa camera tayo.

1st element is ISO dati sa film it is called ASA. ito yun sensitivity ng sensor mo. 100, 200, 400 and so on. the lower the the number say, 100, the less sensitive the light. lower numbers are usually used in well lit scenes. higher numbers are used in darker scences. using high ISO adds noise to your image. noise yung tuldok tuldok sa image mo when you open it in your computer or in bigger screens. in long exposure, sabi ni master tam and master elbert, we commonly use ISO 100 for less noise. maybe you can check on that.

2nd element is the aperture. aperture is the fnumber. f1.2, f1.4, f1.8 and so on... the lower the fnumber the wider the opening of the hole and the shallower the depth of field(search mo na lang sa wikipedia yun depth of field and bokeh for you to better understand.) the higher the fnumber the smaller the opening of the shutter and the wider the depth of field. in higher fnumber, mas konti yun pumapasok na light dahil mas maliit ang opening ng hole. in lower number, mas marami yun pumapasok na light dahil mas malaki ang butas. aperture settings will depend on how deep or shallow your depth of field will be. but remember that ratio na mas maliit ang fnumber, mas malaki ang butas, mas malaki ang fnumber, mas maliit ang butas.

3rd element is the shutter speed. sa long exposure, it's is in seconds. 1", 2" and so on. shutter speed is the length of time you leave your shutter open. so maybe try to lower your shutter speed. experiment so you will know what adjusting the shutter speed will do to your exposure.

these 3 elements are very relative, pag may adjustment ka sa isa, may effect sa exposure mo. at this point, para mas maintindihan mo, experiment mo adjusting these 3 elements for you to better understand what i am saying. baka akala mo, kaya ka namin sinasagot, gusto lang namin magpalibre sa iyo kasi birthday mo. hindi pare, hindi kami tatanggi pag nag-invite ka...

regarding the filter, ginagamit sya if you want to have long exposure in a well lit scenes. Neutral Density glass.

i hope i enlightened you someway somehow. for further explanation, ask mo na ang masters...

pre belated happy birthday. sana dumami pa birthday mo para dumami pa ang pagkakataon mong ilibre kami...

kahit naka-IR filter ka, minsan eh overexposed pa rin. ikaw na rin nagsabi na pag long exposure eh mas maraming light ang papasok. since maraming light na yung pumapasok sa normal exposure mo pag maliwanag, then mag-lo-long exposure ka. superwhite talaga image na makukuha mo. Smiley

Ivan, just an advice the best way to learn long exposure shots is to join the group when doing it.
